The Blazers got a terrific effort on home ice in a 3-1 win over the Kelowna Rockets on Friday night to move three points ahead of the Rockets in the WHL standings and improve to 25-15-1-1 on the season.
The win gave Head Coach Don Hay his 700th career victory in the WHL. Hay is only the second coach to ever record 700 wins in the WHL and trails Ken Hodge who has 742 career wins.
Jermaine Loewen scored the game’s first goal late in the first period for a 1-0 lead.
Rudolfs Balcers made it 2-0 on a great feed from Deven Sideroff on a rush in the second period.
The Rockets lone goal came on the power play off the stick of Dillon Dube.
Luc Smith iced the game with his first goal as a Blazer and his seventh of the season in a 3-1 win over the Rockets.
Dylan Ferguson continued his strong play in goal as he stopped 30 of 31 shots he faced.
The Blazers will be in Kelowna Saturday night for a rematch and will finish the weekend with a game in Portland on Sunday at 5:00pm.
