BLAZERS CAN'T FIND NET IN 4-2 LOSS TO REBELS
19-Oct-11The Blazers played a terrific road game but unfortunately fell 4-2 to the Rebels in Red Deer Wednesday night. The Rebels opened the scoring on the power play as a shot off the end glass bounced in front of the net and Colten Mayor found it first to beat goaltender Cam Lanigan. The Blazers replied as JT Barnett set up Brendan Ranford on a three on two as the Blazers made it 1-1. Shots on goal were 14-10 in favour of the Blazers.
Penalties ruled the second period as both teams had opportunities with five on three power plays. The Blazers scored the lone goal of the period as JT Barnett streaked out of the penalty box and beat goaltender Patrik Bartosak shorthanded for a 2-1 Blazers lead. The hockey club took the lead into the third period.
The Blazers were playing a solid third period as JT Barnett hit a goal post, but shortly after the Rebels capitalized on a mistake. Bronson Maschmeyer had a puck hop over his stick and the Tyson Ness scored on a breakaway for a 2-2 tie. The Rebels took the lead 24 seconds later as the Blazers put a rebound in their own net to give the Rebels a 3-2 lead. From there, the Blazers spent the majority of the period in the Rebels zone. The Blazers had many chances, but failed to beat Bartosak. The Rebels added an empty net goal for a 4-2 win.
The Blazers outshot the Rebels 32-25 in the game. The Rebels were 1-for-4 on the power play while the Blazers finished 0-for-4. The Blazers will play next in Lethbridge on Friday night.
