BLAZERS DEFEAT OIL KINGS 5-2 AT HOME

12-Nov-11

The Kamloops Blazers played a solid game in a 5-2 home ice victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings Saturday night. Chase Schaber opened the scoring for the Blazers as he scored on the power play and the Blazers led 1-0 after the first period. The Blazers had a territorial advantage in the period and it showed as they outshot the Oil Kings 15-6.

The second period was all the home team. The hockey club extended their lead to 2-0 when Dylan Willick was set up beautifully by Brendan Ranford on the power play. The Blazers then made it 3-0 when the line of Colin Smith, JC Lipon and Tim Bozon converted in the offensive zone. The period was dominated by the Blazers as they outshot the Oil Kings 22-1. Shots were 37-7 in favour of the Blazers after two periods.

The Oil Kings found life in the third period. Keegan Lowe took the puck off a Blazers stick and scored on a shorthanded breakaway to cut the lead to 3-1. Kristian Pelss then found the twine as he fired a shot off the post and in and all of a sudden the Blazers had a slim 3-2 lead. There was no panic in the Blazers game as JC Lipon converted on a two on one and Chase Souto scored a late goal for a 5-2 Blazers win.

Final shots on goal were 46-23 in favour of the Blazers. Cam Lanigan earned the win stopping 21 shots while Laurent Brossoit took the loss making 41 saves. The Blazers were 2-for-6 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The next game action for the Blazers is next weekend when they hit the road and play in Spokane against the Chiefs Friday night, and in Tri-City for a game against the Americans on Saturday.
