BLAZERS' LIPON NAMED CHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK16-Oct-12
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that for the second straight week Kamloops Blazers forward JC Lipon is the CHL Player of the Week with 10 points in three games scoring six goals and four assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-4 for the week ending October 14.
Lipon helped the Blazers win three straight games climbing to the top of the WHL Standings with 17 points and an 8-0-0-1 record. Lipon began his week last Wednesday night scoring a goal and an assist in the Blazers’ 5-2 victory over B.C Division rivals the Victoria Royals. He finished with two straight first star performances including Friday night against the Spokane Chiefs where he recorded his first career hat-trick while adding an assist in the 5-1 win, then scored two goals and two assists on Sunday in a 5-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen.
Lipon, a 19-year-old from Regina, SK, is currently first among WHL scorers with 22 points including nine goals and 13 assists in nine games so far this season. Originally a list player by the Blazers, Lipon has gone on to appear in 196 career WHL games, gathering 34 goals, 87 assists for a total of 121 points.
Also considered for the award this week was Dylan Smoskowitz of the Mississauga Steelheads who scored five goals and two assists for seven points in three games, and Sven Andrighetto of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies who scored four goals and five assists for nine points in four games.
