BLAZERS TOP HURRICANES 7-4 IN LETHBRIDGE
21-Oct-11It wasn’t pretty, but the Blazers took down the Lethbridge Hurricanes 7-4 in Lethbridge on Friday night. The Blazers were off to a quick start and looked good early as 16-year-old Cole Ully scored his first WHL goal for a 1-0 lead. The Blazers made it 2-0 shortly after as Colin Smith was set up by Tim Bozon on the power play.
The Hurricanes didn’t go away though as Brody Sutter beat goaltender Cole Cheveldave with a quick shot to cut the lead to 2-1. The Blazers came back scoring shortly later as JC Lipon found his own rebound and scored his fifth of the season. Again, the Hurricanes hung around as Russ Maxwell beat Cheveldave on a breakaway to make it 3-2 after the first period. The Blazers outshot the Hurricanes 20-12 in the period.
The second period didn’t start well for the Blazers. Cam Braes tied the game on the power play beating Cheveldave high on the glove side. The Hurricanes then took the lead as Landon Oslanski scored on an odd man rush. Cheveldave was pulled in favour of Cam Lanigan and it sparked the Blazers.
J.T. Barnett chipped the puck forward and tied the game, beating goaltender Liam Liston five-hole. The Blazers then took the lead back as Brendan Ranford took a puck to the net and Cole Ully scored on a rebound for a 5-4 Blazers lead. Dylan Willick then made it 6-4 scoring on a rebound and all of a sudden the Blazers took the lead into the third period.
The Blazers shut the door in the third period as Colin Smith scored the lone goal on a terrific individual effort and the Blazers won 7-4. Cam Lanigan stopped all 11 shots he faced and earned the win for the Blazers. The Blazers were 2-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
