BLAZERS WEEK IN REVIEW, OCTOBER 8

Friday, October 5th, 2012 vs. Seattle Thunderbirds – 7-2 Win
The Blazers scored five third period goals enroute to a 7-2 home ice victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds. The Blazers opened up a 2-0 first period lead with goals from Colin Smith and Dylan Willick. The Thunderbirds fought to tie it up as Connor Honey scored in the second and early in the third period to make it 2-2. The Blazers broke it open from there with five goals in a span of 11:34 to make it 7-2. Jordan DePape, Willick, JC Lipon, Brendan Ranford and Tim Bozon scored the goals in the third period to put the game away. Cole Cheveldave had another strong outing in goal with 22 saves, while also stoning Connor Honey on a penalty shot. Ranford finished with a goal and four assists, Lipon had a goal and three assists, while Willick and Bozon each had three point nights. Full Recap and Highlights.
Saturday, October 6th, 2012 vs. Medicine Hat Tigers – 4-1 Win
It was a good outing for the Blazers as they defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-1 on Saturday night. After a scoreless first period, the Blazers took a lead in the second period. JC Lipon continued his stellar weekend setting up Tim Bozon for a goal to make it 1-0. Jordan Thomson made it 2-0 when he snuck a puck under goaltender Dawson MacAuley. The Tigers got on the board as Miles Koules fired a quick shot off a faceoff to make it 2-1. The Blazers solidified the win as they capitalized on a third period power play and scored an empty net goal to make it 4-1. JC Lipon scored both third period goals and finished with seven points in the two weekend games. Cole Cheveldave earned the win making 21 saves. Full Recap and Highlights.
Blazers Host Two Home Games This Week
After two weekend wins, the Blazers will close out a four game homestand this week by hosting the Victoria Royals on Wednesday, October 10th and the Spokane Chiefs on Friday, October 12th.
Following this week’s home games, the Blazers will be on the road for five straight games starting in Calgary on Sunday, October 14th and finishing in Cranbrook on Saturday, October 20th.
JC Lipon WHL Player of the Week
Kamloops Blazers forward JC Lipon has been named the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week. The 19-year-old had 3 goals, 4 assists for 7 points in two games this past weekend.
Lipon led the WHL in preseason scoring with 9 points and is currently tied for the WHL lead in scoring with 12 points in 6 games this season.

Blazers Rank 6th in the BMO CHL MasterCard Top 10 Rankings
The Blazers improved their BMO CHL MasterCard Top 10 Rankings from 8th to 6th. The Blazers are the second highest ranked WHL team in the Top 10 with a 5-0-0-1 record to start the year. To view the rankings, follow this link.
