FIVE FORMER BLAZERS PARTICIPATING IN MEN’S OLYMPIC HOCKEY

 

Kamloops, BC - The Kamloops Blazers will be well represented at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Jarome Iginla, who will serve as an alternate captain, and Scott Niedermayer who will be the team captain, will both represent Canada. T.J. Mulock and Jason Holland will play for Germany, and Hnat Domenichelli is representing Switzerland. The hockey club will also have former Head Coach Ken Hitchcock behind the bench of Team Canada as an Assistant Coach.  

 Jarome Iginla played three seasons for the Blazers from 1993-1996 winning two Memorial Cups in 1994 and 1995. Iginla scored 102 goals and accumulated 236 points in his junior hockey career. Internationally, Iginla has won gold with Team Canada in the World Junior Championship in 1996, the World Championship in 1997, the 2002 Olympics and at the World Cup of Hockey in 2004. Iginla has played 1004 NHL games and accumulated 908 points all with the Calgary Flames in a 13 year NHL career. 

Scott Niedermayer has won every possible team trophy in hockey. He played three seasons with the Blazers from 1989-1992 winning a Memorial Cup in 1992. In international play, Niedermayer has won a gold medal in the 1991 World Junior Championship, 2002 Olympics, 2004 World Championships, and 2004 World Cup of Hockey. In 17 NHL seasons, Niedermayer has won four Stanley Cups in a 17 year career with New Jersey and Anaheim.

T.J. Mulock played with the Blazers for only one season in 2004-05 recording 45 points in 59 games. The Langley, BC native has been playing professionally in Germany for the past four seasons. Mulock holds dual citizenship which allows him to play for Germany.

Jason Holland won two Memorial Cups with the Blazers in three seasons with the hockey club from 1993-1996. He played 81 games in the NHL with the New York Islanders, Buffalo and Los Angeles. Holland has since gone on to a professional career playing in Germany.

Hnat Domenichelli played four seasons with the Kamloops Blazers from 1992-1996 winning three Memorial Cups with the Blazers. He has since gone on to play 267 NHL games with Hartford, Calgary, Atlanta and Minnesota posting 113 points. Domenichelli has played the last seven seasons in Switzerland.

Finally, Ken Hitchcock, who coached the Kamloops Blazers from 1984-1990, will be an Assistant Coach with Canada. In six seasons with the Blazers, Hitchcock had a .693 winning percentage, won five division titles and two league titles. Hitchcock has gone on to coach over 1000 NHL games, eclipsing 500 NHL wins and also winning a Stanley Cup in 1999 with Dallas.
