Week in Review:

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 @ Moose Jaw Warriors

The Blazers started off slow, but battled hard the rest of the night and were defeated 2-1 by the Warriors. Moose Jaw started the scoring in the first period taking a 2-0 lead after Travis Hamonic and Jesse Paradis notched goals. The Blazers battled back in the second period with Tyler Shattock scoring on the powerplay on a pass from CJ Stretch. The hockey club pressed in the third period and had a powerplay to finish the game, but it wasn’t enough as they suffered their second loss in as many games. The hockey club had a strong night on special teams as they were 1-for-4 on the powerplay and 7-for-7 on the penalty kill. Justin Leclerc was strong in goal as he stopped 37 of 35 shots he faced.

Wednesday, October 21, 2009 @ Swift Current Broncos

The Blazers scored first, but by games end were burned 5-2 by the Swift Current Broncos. The Blazers had a 1-0 lead after the first period on a goal by Shayne Wiebe. The second period was a different story as the hockey club was outshot 17-3 and were trailing 2-1. The Blazers battled back in the third as Giffen Nyren made it a 3-2 game, but the Broncos scored shortly after and added an empty net goal to seal the victory. For the Blazers, this is their third consecutive loss. Final shots on goal were 40-25 in favour of the Broncos. The Blazers special teams were once again great as they went 2-for-3 on the powerplay and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill. The hockey club’s record now drops to 8-5-2-0.

Friday, October 23, 2009 @ Prince Albert Raiders

It was the fifth road game in a row for the Blazers and it ended in another loss, as they fell 5-2 to the Prince Albert Raiders. The Blazers’ Brendan Ranford opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal early in the first period. It didn’t slow up the Raiders as they would score on the same powerplay and take a 2-1 lead after the first period. The hockey club had a good second period with Jake Trask scoring as Giffen Nyren fed him the puck in the slot which made it a 3-2 game with a period to go. The third period was all Raiders though as the Blazers couldn’t battle back in this one. The Blazers were 0-for-6 on the powerplay and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill. Justin Leclerc had a busy night in goal as he was peppered with shots as he stopped 52 of 57 shots.
