COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock will reach the 1,000-game milestone as a National Hockey League head coach on Wednesday, November 11, when the Blue Jackets host the Detroit Red Wings at Nationwide Arena. He will become the 16th coach in league history to reach the milestone.

Hitchcock is in his fourth season with Columbus and 14th in the NHL and has posted a 520-350-129 record in 999 career games with the Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars and Philadelphia Flyers. On Feb. 19, 2009, he became the 13th coach in NHL history to record 500 wins with a 4-3 shootout win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre.

Hitchcock spent parts of five seasons in Dallas, compiling a 277-166-60 regular season record and 47-33 playoff mark. He led his teams to five Central Division titles, two President's Trophies (1997-98, 1998-99) and two Western Conference championships (1999, 2000) in addition to the 1999 Stanley Cup. After being named head coach in Philadelphia, he posted a 131-83-40 record and led the Flyers to the 2003-04 Atlantic Division title and an appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals that year. Since taking over as the Blue Jackets head coach on Nov. 22, 2006, he has led Columbus to a 112-101-29 record and its first appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008-09.
