NEEDHAM NAMED ASSISTANT COACH

MIKE NEEDHAM HIRED AS BLAZERS ASSISTANT COACH

Kamloops, BC – Kamloops Blazers General Manager Craig Bonner announced today that the hockey club has hired Mike Needham as the team’s new Assistant Coach.

“First of all, I would like to thank Andy Oakes and Dixon Ward at the Okanagan Hockey Academy for their understanding through this process, “ commented Bonner. “OHA has not only produced a number of quality players for the WHL, but also quality coaches.”

Needham has spent the past three seasons as the Head Coach of the Okanagan Hockey Academy Bantam Prep team.

“We are excited to have Mike on our staff full-time. He has a familiarity with our program since he has been our skills coach during the past four seasons,” said Bonner. “Mike understands today’s player. He has done a great job coaching the OHA Bantam Prep team.”

“I’m really excited to have Mike on board with us”, said Head Coach Don Hay. “Mike and I have had a good relationship since the start of training camp. We feel he will be a tremendous asset to our program.”

Needham’s playing career included three seasons with the Kamloops Blazers from 1987-1990. He played six seasons of pro hockey which included 86 NHL games. Needham also won the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1992.

Mike will officially join the team starting Monday, September 29th as he has to fulfill a commitment with OHA this weekend.
