Zary, Garand, Persson Selected in NHL Draft

Kamloops, BC – Goaltender Dylan Garand has been selected in the 4th round, 103rd overall by the New York Rangers in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Garand had a great season as a starting goalie in 2019-20. He went 28-10-2-1 in 42 games. He posted a franchise record 2.21 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. His season stats were among the best ever for a goaltender in franchise history.

The Victoria, BC native was also named the WHL’s Scholastic Player of the Year for the 2019-20 season.


Garand has a ton of international experience suiting up with Hockey Canada at the Under-17 and Under-18 level. He participated in Hockey Canada’s virtual National Junior Camp this past summer.

Defenseman Viktor Perrson was selected in the 7th round, 191st overall by the Vancouver Canucks.

Persson was selected by the Blazers in the 2020 CHL import on June 30th.

The Sweden native played last season with the Byrnas J20 and had 18 points in 26 games.

Persson has signed a standard player agreement with the Blazers and is expected to play with the hockey club for the 2020-21 season.

Garand and Persson are the second and third Blazers to be selected in the 2020 NHL Draft  They join teammate Connor Zary, who was selected in the 1stround, 24th overall by the Calgary Flames.
