It was a dominating performance put on by the Kamloops Blazers as they won 8-2 over the Victoria Royals on Sunday night. The Blazers played well in the first period as Colin Smith opened the scoring driving to the net and burying his second goal of the season. JC Lipon made it 2-0 Blazers taking a rebound from Austin Madaisky and putting it past goaltender Keith Hamilton. The Blazers outshot 12-9 in the period.
The Blazers continued their strong game in the second period as Chase Schaber scored his first goal on the season. Schaber opened the game up making it 4-0 on a shorthanded breakaway and that was the end for goaltender Keith Hamilton. The Royals had a spark to finish the period as Logan Nelson buried two goals, but JC Lipon scored his second of the game and the Blazers took a 5-2 lead into the third period.
The Blazers saved their best for last as Tim Bozon and Matthew Needham each scored their first goals of the season, and Bronson Maschmeyer danced in scoring a beautiful goal for an 8-2 victory. The Blazers outshot the Royals 19-4 in the final period. Goaltender Taran Kozun, making his first WHL start, stopped 22 of 24 shots on the night. The Blazers were 0-for-6 on the powerplay and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The hockey club’s next game action is on Friday, October 7th when they host the Spokane Chiefs.
