HOME COOKIN’: The Kamloops Blazers franchise is in their 34th season in the Western Hockey League and the 31st season as the Kamloops Blazers. The Blazers have a record of 11-10-3-2 playing 15 of their 26 games on the road. Following tonight’s game on the road, the Blazers will play five straight home games from November 28th – December 6th. The Blazers will host the Regina Pats on Friday, November 28th and the Victoria Royals on Saturday, November 29th. Following the homestand, the Blazers play make a six-game road trip through Alberta.

BY THE NUMBERS: Matt Needham played his 200th WHL game on November 7th in Tri-City… Quinn Benjafield scored his first career WHL goal on November 8th in Portland… Mike Winther played his 250th WHL game on November 7th in Tri-City… Cole Ully recorded his 100th WHL assist on November 7th in Tri-City… Matt Needham is 10 assists shy of 100 in his WHL career… Josh Connolly is 2 games shy of 150 in his WHL career… Logan McVeigh has played the most WHL games of any player on the roster with 282… McVeigh has also played for 5 WHL teams including Kamloops (twice), Prince Albert, Medicine Hat and Regina… Defenseman Travis Verveda recorded his first WHL point November 14th against Spokane with an assist… Deven Sideroff has 31 career points in only 40 career games. 

THE MATCH UP: The Blazers and Silvertips are meeting for the final of four regular season games this season. The ‘Tips were in Kamloops on October 11th and October 29th winning 5-1 and 4-1 over the Blazers. These two teams met in Everett on November 15th with the ‘Tips winning 3-2 in a WHL record 15-round shootout.

EVERETT SILVERTIPS ‘Who to Watch’: The Silvertips are a heavily balanced club with 12 of their 14 forwards WHL veterans. Nikita Scherbak and Ivan Nikolishin are the Silvertips two import forwards from Russia. Both are dynamic players that can score. Scherbak is a first round pick of the Montreal Canadiens. Carson Stadnyk is leading the ‘Tips in scoring and is a solid two-way player. Graham Millar was acquired from Saskatoon in the off-season and has showed a scoring touch. Kohl Bauml and Brayden Low are the two 20-year-old forwards that add some secondary scoring. Remi Laurencelle and Dawson Leedahl are into their third seasons. Patrik Bajkov and Matt Fonteyne are two 17-year-olds heading into their second seasons, and will be counted on more often this year. Nik Malenica and Gunnar Wegleitner are both in their first WHL seasons. The ‘Tips back end is young, but talented. Ben Betker is the 20-year-old leader that can play a two-way game. Cole MacDonald is another solid veteran for the ‘Tips. Noah Juulsen and Kevin Davis are both in their second WHL seasons and will play big minutes for the ‘Tips. Both are very talented 17-year-olds with bright futures. Carter Cochrane, Tristen Pfeifer and Lucas Skrumeda are all 18-year-old rookies that will get lots of opportunity. Jordan Wharrie is a 17-year-old rookie that rounds out the ‘Tips defense. In goal, Austin Lotz is the incumbent goaltender and has the starter role. The 19-year-old is in his fourth WHL season. Carter Hart is the 16-year-old back-up. His numbers have proven he can play at this level.
